Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
for about a week now I have been experiencing sharp pain about 6 inches below my right arm pit around my rib cage. I can breath deeply with no pain but if I exert what I think are my rib cage muscles BAM !! I can also prod the area with not as much pain as when I move that entire area. I don t recall any trauma although I did play golf about the same time it started.
It appears to be a case of musculoskeletal injury either a muscle spasm of chest muscles or rib sprain due to overstraining of muscles of rib cage while playing golf.
I would recommend an over the counter pain killer like Acetaminophen and ice packs to the site of pain.
If the pain does not subside, a visit to an Orthopedic surgeon and a chest X ray may be required to rule out a stress fracture of rib. Xray can also diagnose any lung problems if present. Hope you feel better soon, thank you.
